AIGA Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote

Artist Statement: This poster was created to acknowledge and honor the Black women who have been fighting for political rights since the early 19th century in the US. While white women were granted the right to vote in 1920 with the ratification of the 19th Amendment, Black women didn't receive full voting rights until 1965 and haven't stopped working against the disenfranchisement of Black voters ever since. In honor of: Sojourner Truth, Charlotte Vandine Forten, Sr, Harriet Forten Purvis, Margaretta Forten, Harriet (Hattie) Purvis, Jr, Angelina Weld Grimke, Charlotte Forten Grimke, Harriet Tubman, Sarah Remond, Charlotta (Lottie) Rollin, Mary Ann Shadd Cary, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, Augusta T. Chissell, Margaret Gregory Hawkins, Gertrude Bustill Mossell, Josephine St., Pierre Ruffin, Carrie Langston, Mary Church Terrell, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Mary Talbert, Mrs. R. Jerome Jeffery, Mrs. I. L. Moorman, Mary E. Jackson, Adella Hunt Logan, Mary Mccurdy, Fannie (Frances) Barrier Williams, Coralie Franklin Cook, Janie Porter Barrett, Naomi Talbert (Anderson), Margaret Murray Washington, Anna J.
