The Boyfriend Loophole
Description
AIGA Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote
Submitted By: Marty Maxwell Lane
AIGA Chapter: Northwest Arkansas
Artist Statement: Gun Violence is a Womxn’s Issue. Federal law prohibits convicted domestic abusers from purchasing guns, but this does not include dating partners or convicted stalkers. The law also does not allow law enforcement to remove guns that the abuser already owns. This gap in protection is referred to as the boyfriend loophole. This threat extends beyond personal relationships as many mass shooters have a past of domestic abuse.
We can change this. We can close the boyfriend loophole by voting for gun sense candidates who will vote to protect womxn.
Data & Information: Everytown for Gun Safety & Teen Vogue. Typefaces: Good Girl by Marion Bisserier & Lexi Mono by Dalton Maag.
