Artist Statement: Black women played a significant role in the woman's suffrage movements. Ida B. Wells and many other great woman helped to start and put countless hours into white women receiving the right to vote. But once this battle was won black women were not afforded that right. We had to fight another 45 years before the Civil Rights Act of 1965 was passed. This poster takes a moment to gives honor to all the black women who put their lives on the line for the the 1920 19th amendment. The poster hopes to remind everyone that these black women's voices mattered back then and Black women's voices matter now. As 100 years has passed since the 19th amendment was passed let us all be thankful that we don't have to wait another 45 years to let our black voices be heard in the 2020 election. Remember we need to vote in both local and national elections. Black Lives Matter and Black Voices Matter, and Black Votes Matter.
