AIGA Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote

Artist Statement: The female physical body was, and continues to be, affected by colonialism. The image of the female torso represents the body vulnerable and strong, incorporating the words as scars, yet fully present with agency over her transformability. My inspiration for the text are words by Daina Ramey Berry, Professor of History, University of Texas at Austin, which I interpret to accept the incompleteness of the emancipation process and are a call to action to reshape our systems of oppression. "During this moment, I feel that we still need to be emancipated. There are still freedoms that need to be protected. There are still laws that need to be revised. There are more people that need to be included. There are more things to achieve. There is more space for change and growth."
